Favela Programada é um curso de programação – Coding – que conta com uma metodologia desenvolvida em parceria com a Empresa Baymetrics.
The course lasts nine months, with two classes per week, for ten adolescentes at a time (current capacity in pilot project). The goal is that beneficiaries complete 120 hours of training and after are able to enter the IT / Programmer market - market that generated US $ 4.2 billion in 2019 in Brazil.
We have the largest generation of young people in the history of Brazil, today there are approximately 50 million youth under the age of 21, and in São Paulo, 4 out of 10, 19 year olds have not finished high school, 62% are out of school and 55% stopped studying in elementary school. (Data is part of the monitoring of “Todos pela Educação”, based on IBGE's Continuous Pnad. )
We chose Coding because there is a deficit of 500 thousand vacancies in this IT sector in 2020, henceforth we see a very good opportunity for social and professional reintegration for vulnerable boys and girls.
With a minimum wage starting at 3-4 thousand reais (~$1000), we see a urgency to train young people for such jobs in this century. The largest generation of adolescents and young adults in the history of Brazil, needs to use technology to face the chronic problems of our society, and have access to educational opportunities and possibilities to build a future with more access to the labor market.
METHODOLOGY
The Course Methodology was developed with the Baymetrics team, following the structure of the Access projects, divided into three phases, which are: Look (see how it is), Experiment (“learn by doing”), Produce (“prototype of ideas”) .
With the help of th code.org platform, beneficiaries will learn programming techniques, always with the objective of observation, research and reflective understanding of the potential of the technique, and thus building their own programming projects.
